Before spending time in sunny Hawaii and Mexico for our sabbatical, we first wanted to explore the chill city of San Fransisco, California. We found San Fransisco had a lot to offer but unfortunately we didn’t have much time to see all the sights we wanted.
But we did leave with happy hearts and full bellies, and we’re so excited to share a couple local gems we found during our super short visit! Here is a little overview.
Our first stop was the amazing Fisherman’s Wharf and the surrounding area. We walked all around Pier 39, saw the sea lions, enjoyed some live performers, ate some delicious food and learned much about the San Fran history.
Alcatraz was closed for the day so we weren’t able to tour but I saw it out in the distance. 🙂
One of our favorite parts of the pier, besides the food, were the sea lions chilling and playing nearby.
For lunch we decided to eat at The Hook. We both chose the Fish & Chips, which were amazing of course.
I’m sorry but I couldn’t help but take this photo of the little boy. HIS HAT!! Haha
You could literally find all kinds of sweet treats. It was way too dangerous! Mini donuts, Nutella crepes, candy, OH MY!
A few piers down we came across a marketplace full of fresh sea food. Had I not ate already I probably would have snacked a bit here too!
Along Fisherman’s Wharf we walked by the USS Pampanito, a restored Navy vessel from World War II that now serves as a museum, memorial & historical landmark. In the background you can see Alcatraz amongst the fog.
There were a number of performers and artists that lined the piers.
We ended at Ghirardelli Square where we saw the Balclutha ship and old cable cars.
Later that evening we grabbed a bus and headed over to Smitten Ice Cream, which was one of my favorite stops on our trip. If you’re ever in San Fran you have to stop there!! Read more about it here >> Smitten Ice Cream in San Fransisco
Our final morning we walked to a Toast Eatery for breakfast. I almost always have to give Eggs Benedict a try if it’s an option and the Toast Eatery’s was up there with some of my favs!
Here’s a run down for the places we visited in our day in San Fransisco:

If you’ve been, what were some of your favorite local stops? I need to add some more to my list for the next time we’re in town.
